A standard set by assistants, for assistants.
The Commission on Ohio Dental Assistant Certification is a non-profit body that credentials dental assistants across Ohio. Every member volunteers their time.
What the Commission is
A non-profit organisation whose mission is to give dental assistants in Ohio a clear route to credentialing. It has set the state standard since 1972.
Who sits on it
Certified dental assistants volunteer their time. Members hold current certification through the Dental Assisting National Board, through CODA, or both.
What the credential does
CODA certification is recognised by the Ohio State Dental Board. It meets the requirement to apply for EFDA, coronal polishing and pit and fissure sealant programmes in Ohio.
Ohio does not licence dental assistants. Certification is what shows an employer, a programme, or a patient that you meet the state standard.
What certification opens.
-
Expanded function duties
Certification is the prerequisite for EFDA, coronal polishing and sealant programmes, which widen what you are permitted to do chairside.
-
Employer recognition
Many Ohio practices list CODA certification as a requirement or a preference when hiring assistants.
-
A portable record
Your certificate is issued with a number, and can be verified by anyone through a public lookup.
