Commission on Ohio Dental Assistant Certification
Staying certified

Renewal takes four steps.

Certification expires on 31 December each year. Renewal is completed entirely in the portal: check your profile, confirm your education hours, and pay the fee.

01

Get into your account

Go to the portal and choose Forgot Password. Enter the email address that received your renewal notice. That address is your login.

02

Complete your profile

Check every field. Name, contact details, employer and school all need to be correct before a renewal can be approved.

03

Attest to your education hours

Confirm you have completed the required continuing education for the year. You keep the records and are subject to audit at any time.

04

Pay the fee

Submit and pay online. To avoid the late fee, the renewal must be submitted, approved and paid before 31 December.

Continuing education

12 hours a year, kept on file.

You are responsible for keeping your own record of continuing education each year. The Commission may audit those records at any time, and failing to provide accurate documentation results in revocation.

Programmes must run at least 45 minutes to earn one credit hour, and the content must relate directly to dental assisting or dentistry.

  • Attendance at a dental assisting or dental seminar or workshop.
  • Community participation in dental-related projects, credited at one hour for every two clock hours, up to four credits a year.
  • CPR retraining, OSHA updates and radiology review courses.
  • Home study and online courses approved by the ADA, AGD, ADAA or DANB.
  • EFDA training taken after certification may count for two years, with proof of enrolment or completion submitted each year.

Cannot see your current certificate?

After migration this usually comes down to one of two things: a previous name spelling, or a different email address used in earlier years. Both are normal.

Email the Commission with any alternate addresses or former name spellings and the record will be corrected.

Still within the window?

Renewals are accepted through 31 March with the late fee applied. After that date the certification is expired and the full examination is required.

You can confirm your status at any time in the portal under Your Certificates.
